Once, an advertisement in the newspaper said like this, “Easy steps to become rich, to have more details send Rs. 100 as money order to the following address.” Many people sent Rs. 100 along with the letter saying, “I would like to know more about it. “Days passed by and there was no reply. One person wrote a letter to that address asking why are you not responding to my letter. The reply to that letter was very funny, “To become rich do the same as I did.” This might sound like a story, but the reality is that many people are trapped while they are searching for a way to a bright future. You might also have similar experiences. Many forget that working hard is the only way for a bright future. There is a proverb that says, hard work is the foundation of success. “Commit your ways to the Lord; trust in Him and He shall bring it to pass.”(Psalms 37:5) The thoughts about tomorrow make a man very depressed and sad. Everyone likes to know what will happen tomorrow. For that people are seeing their star signs and even meet astrologers. But when things move opposite of their thinking they become sad. People are worried about their future, education, job, marriage, healing, and debts and even worried about death. Many a time the ways we choose for a good future lead us to failure. People always like to escape from the worries of tomorrow. Apostle Peter says in 1Peter 5: 7, to cast all our cares on Jesus for He cares for us. When we try to carry our burdens by ourselves our anxieties increase. That is why the Word of God in Psalms 55: 22 says, cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you. The five main things that determine our future are decisions, God’s will, circumstances, aims, and opportunities. In this article, I would like to focus more on the topic, decisions. Decision-making is choosing one out of two or more things. The decision that we make today determines our tomorrow. The right decision leads us to victory and the wrong decision leads us to failure. Therefore, it is important to know how to choose what is right. Life decisions can be divided into three, such as short term decisions, long term decisions, and lifelong decisions 1. Short term decision Every day we make so many decisions. But we forget that these decisions are the ones that lead us. We should be careful with our short-term decisions as it affects our long-term decisions and life. The decision on each step that we take is a short-term decision but if we are keeping that step to deep pit or deep water, it can be our last step. Our short-term decisions include our day-to-day steps. We do each thing after deciding. But many times we regret when we land up in trouble due to our wrong decisions. This can include wrong words, phone calls, journeys, relationships with our friends, etc. Two types of short-term decisions are these, such as the decision on self and decision on others. Many fail to make the right decisions about themselves. Some short-term decisions that we take can impact others’ lives too. For example, the pleasure of a person can gift AIDS to someone else. The bible says in Proverbs 14: 12, “there is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end, it leads to death.”The hasty decisions taken might seem right but it would take time to understand that it will lead to death. Those who walk according to God’s way can take the right decision at any time. 2. Long Term Decision The decision taken after thinking for years and months is called a long-term decision. The result of such decisions will be lasting for a lifetime or a long term. Some of these are: A. Education If you are thinking that education is only for students then you are wrong. Education is something people will have till the end of their lives. Some gain knowledge out of education while others just learn for the sake of learning. The ultimate aim of education is to gain knowledge. Education is a long-term decision which a child is taking in his childhood. In the olden days, people were not aware of post-graduate degrees, for they were available only in faraway places. But now children are learning computer even from their first grade. When the children reach 10th grade they will have to choose their major subjects. Else they will not be able to aim further. Those who have set their goals only will be able to go further. Children will have to decide in their 10th grade itself whether they want to become doctors, engineers, teachers, nurses, or a missionary. They will have to decide well in advance whether to major in Science, Maths, History, etc. One cannot decide to turn to the medical field after choosing Maths or History as the major subject. Some people move in the wrong direction due to their late decision-making. The brain controls a person. Though education will not make a man perfect it is a step to perfection. As we live in a competitive time especially in the field of education, it is very much important to know about the scope, acceptance, and subjects of the field we choose. If we realize after our studies that it is not a proper field then it is too late for us to regret it and we will lose our money, time, health, etc. B. Work Mahatma Gandhi said that every Indian should have a job and a godly thought. Every work is important but it is important to find and accept what is your skill. Those who have more than one skill set should concentrate on one work. If you try to concentrate on more than one work there are chances of failure. Instead of doing many, expertly do one thing. Be an expert in what you do. Choose one work at which you are good at.There are chances that you will feel that the work you have chosen is not the right one. So it is better to think and choose before you start. Choose a work according to your interest and area of study. One of the major crises that we face now is joblessness. But more than joblessness the confusion to choose the right job has become problematic. So choose a job according to your interest which will avoid all the confusion. Hard work is necessary for every work. Every work has its advantages and disadvantages. We always feel the other side is greener and running after green pastures will end up in trouble. It is always good to stick to what we do. But if we feel that our decision was wrong then considering your age, health and time we can try for a new field. We will have joy and happiness in our lives if we are faithful in what we do. C. Friends Bacon once said, “A friend is a one who reveals our weaknesses to us and hides in front of others.” Friends are an asset. People who don’t have friends are like animals. Everyone dreams to have a friend who will understand and stand along. But the question is how we can find a good friend. Many times we don’t choose friends, but as time pass they become our friends. Sometimes our friends can become our enemies. But the saying is ‘a friend in need is a friend indeed.’ What if friends are not there in trouble? Bible says in Proverbs that a friend will love always and in days of trouble a friend will become our brother. A true friend will stand along in troubles and struggles. Friends may change as we grow old or according to the circumstances. We might have so many friends in our life. They might cheat and leave you alone. But the singer is saying, “What a friend we have in Jesus; All our sins and grief to bear; What a privilege to carry; Everything to Lord in prayer!Yes, Jesus is our best friend who carries all our sins and will never leave us alone. Let us prayerfully submit everything to him. Jesus says in John 15: 13, greater love has no one than this that he lay down his life for his friends. Who sacrificed his life for his friend? Jesus himself! He loved us who had to die in their sins and died on the cross for carrying all the punishments of our sins. He lives for us even today. Are you unhappy without a true friend? Are you cheated? Are you lonely? Accept Jesus, the true friend as your personal savior. Jesus cares for you. He will give good friends.
